SkillSpace
Navigate beyond your learning experience and put your new skills to use.

People who quickly forget key concepts need simple, repeatable methods to review and
reinforce what they’ve learned because without consistent refreshers, newly acquired skills fade
before they can be confidently applied.
How might we offer structured, ongoing reinforcement—such as spaced repetition or
micro-challenges—that helps learners retain and recall their new skills when needed?
By creating a well organized system to help users navigate beyond their learning experience and put their new skills to use by providing resources for free and also offering classes to build on their skills.
Data collected from 4 participants.
What People Are Saying
“For me, it works better if there are short tutorials followed by a hands-on exercise. In case I am having difficulty applying the skill, I would prefer to have direct contact with a mentor and like minded peers who are learning the same thing as me.”

“Having more time to learn new skills.”

“Having the opportunity and resources to practice it more.”

To ensure a well-organized and user-friendly experience for the client’s website, I began by refining the sitemap and user flows, placing special emphasis on the "Apply Your Skills" page to improve visibility and structure. I conducted a tree test to validate the navigation and used participant feedback to assess how users would naturally explore the site. These insights guided the development of intuitive wireframes aligned with both user behavior and the client’s goals.
An experience map illustrating the user’s path.
Starting with low-fidelity wireframes, I created multiple layout variations informed by the user flows, interview insights, and personas I had developed. These early designs focused on structure and usability, allowing flexibility for iteration. After presenting the concepts and gathering client and user feedback, I refined the wireframes by prioritizing key screens that aligned with user goals and client objectives—ensuring the foundation was both functional and user-centered.
Preliminary visuals outlining site layout and structure.
During the high-fidelity phase, I iterated on the designs through multiple rounds of review. After the first and second critiques, I made key adjustments to improve usability, visual hierarchy, and alignment with user needs. The final screens were selected and refined based on insights from prototype testing and user feedback, ensuring the design was both polished and intuitive.
High-fidelity prototype with updated flow and interactive elements.
To finalize the prototype, I conducted usability testing with five participants from diverse backgrounds. The goal was to assess whether users could efficiently complete key tasks, such as creating a new goal and accessing the Practice Lab. All participants successfully completed the tasks, but their feedback revealed several opportunities to enhance the user experience. Based on their insights, I made targeted updates to improve clarity, consistency, and navigation across the site.
Key refinements included:
Adding a search bar and a “Load More” button for smoother content discovery
Rewording the goal input prompt to “What do you want to achieve?” to guide user input
Removing the Sign-Up button after login to prevent confusion
Aligning dropdown menus with the dashboard navigation
Adjusting font sizes and spacing for better readability and visual balance
Embedding action buttons into card backgrounds for stronger visual connection
Completed prototype with final design adjustments.
SkillSpace is currently in a strong place, with a clear structure, intentional design decisions, and features that directly address user needs. Still, there are exciting opportunities for growth. What if users could track progress through personalized dashboards? What if micro-challenges adapted to skill level and learning goals? Could deeper community features enhance motivation and connection? While these ideas didn’t make it into the final version, they’ve inspired valuable insights that I’ll carry forward into future projects. For now, I’m proud of what SkillSpace has become—a foundation for skill-building that’s simple, approachable, and designed with purpose.
